Al Saqr Engineering is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Calibration Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily laboratory operations and drive the expansion of our ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration services.
In this role, you will lead a team of calibration engineers and technicians, maintain rigorous technical quality, review calibration data and certificates, and ensure full compliance with international metrology standards and accreditation bodies (e.g., EIAC).
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Team Leadership
- Direct and manage daily calibration laboratory operations, workflow, and job allocation.
- Monitor laboratory workload, job turnaround time (TAT), and completion rates to maintain service SLAs.
- Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and continuous training to calibration engineers and technicians.
- Coordinate on-site calibration assignments and manage field service logistics as needed.
Quality Assurance & ISO 17025 Compliance
- Maintain and uphold the laboratory’s Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
- Support external accreditation audits (e.g., EIAC), internal audits, and client technical reviews.
- Manage non-conformities, drive root-cause analysis, and implement effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Guarantee strict adherence to impartiality, confidentiality, and technical integrity standard operating procedures.
Technical Excellence & Calibration Oversight
- Review and approve calibration worksheets, technical records, uncertainty budgets, and formal calibration certificates.
- Ensure full measurement traceability of laboratory reference/master standards and reference equipment.
- Oversee master equipment calibration schedules, verification checks, and environmental condition monitoring.
- Participate in expanding the laboratory’s technical scope and developing new calibration procedures.
Client & Commercial Support
- Serve as the technical point of contact for clients regarding measurement queries, requirements, and technical issues.
- Ensure the safe handling, accurate identification, and systematic control of customer instruments.
- Support senior management with laboratory capacity planning, technical improvements, and scope extension projects.
Calibration Disciplines
Experience in one or more of the following technical domains is preferred:
- Pressure: Pressure/vacuum gauges, pressure transmitters, switches, digital calibrators.
- Temperature & Humidity: RTDs, thermocouples, indicators/controllers, digital thermometers, transmitters, hygrometers.
- Electrical: Multimeters, clamp meters, insulation/earth resistance testers, electrical calibrators.
- Mechanical & Dimensional: Vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, torque tools, measuring systems.
- Mass & Force: Analytical balances, standard test weights, load cells, force transducers.
- Flow & Process Instrumentation: Flow meters, differential-pressure instruments, level sensors, process transmitters.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on calibration experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisor or lead technician role.
- Regional Experience: UAE experience within an accredited calibration lab, TIC environment, or industrial setting is strongly preferred.
Technical & Core Competencies
- Accreditation Knowledge: In-depth working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 guidelines and EIAC (or equivalent accreditation body) audit processes.
- Metrology Skills: Proficiency in calculating measurement uncertainty, evaluating error limits, and interpreting international calibration standards.
- Traceability: Strong background in master equipment maintenance, calibration intervals, and measurement traceability chains.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving capabilities, clear command of technical English (written and verbal), and demonstrated team leadership.
Suggested Fixes & Recommendations for Improvement
Here are a few quick structural enhancements you might consider depending on your recruitment strategy:
- EIAC Specifics: Since EIAC is explicitly named, emphasize previous audit success (e.g., “Proven track record of directly supporting successful EIAC assessment audits”) to filter out mid-level technicians who worked only in an ISO environment without direct audit involvement.
- Software Experience: If you use a specific Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or calibration management software (e.g., IndySoft, Fluke MET/CAL), add it under candidate requirements to target candidates with the exact operational background you need.
